I think it will be The Shining gift edition that increases the most in value. The addition of Before The Play and the supposedly lost After material make it a must for both completists and more casual fans.

Hey Brian, have you guys ever thought about adding an eBook version to the sales of the books? I know that sub Press added that option to a few of the books and if you pre-ordered so far in advanced you got the eBook version for free with the limited edition.
I am really looking forward to reading the added material of The Shining but the only time I get to read in the day is at the train station or standing on the train. I don't think pulling out a 7x10 behemoth of a book to try and read, would work too well when they decide to test the brakes for no reason. Just an idea.

Ebook rights are separate from the print rights they acquire. Doing a King ebook would cost them a pretty penny.

I could see that happening for their own books though. It's a good idea for when they are able to obtain the rights reasonably.

I bought one of each state, so three initially. Then I succumbed to the spur of the moment impulse buy and bought one extra gift edition when it looked like such a quick sell-out. Then I bought a Maitz drawing for one of the gift editions.

Just a quick note, I sent the additional bonus material for THE SHINING to the designer today and it totals just shy of 10,000 words.

Brian

Hello Brian,
So this is added after the book or in addentums?

It's in the bonus material section:

Yes!

Thanks for giving us that tidbit. Now we can narrow down our speculation. This is where I really wish I had a copy of Knowing Darkness.

Assuming there is no overlap with the PS editions being produced right now, we might be able to rule out the following:
Les Edwards
Jill Bauman
Edward Geyer
Pete Von Sholly

People that have illustrated King novels for CD in the past are:
Alan Clarke
Vincent Chong
Erin Wells

Other artist off the top of my head

JK Potter
Dave McKean
Phil Hale
Rick Berry
Michael Whelan

Good news is... Salem's Lot arrived today. Bad news is, I've been given the wrong number. For some reason I've been given 691 - remarqued also, as I paid for. My number is 633 (my Carrie number), and also for the upcoming Shining and Nightshift. Checked my email record - Mindy okayed the 633 number back in September 2015. I'm gutted.

Hi Peripheral,

I had the same thing happen. Mindy was able to track it down, since I bought my Carrie from Bad Moon Books, they also had the
Salem's lot. In my case she had updated the order for the Night Shift, Stand and Pet Semetary, but forgot about SL and the
Shining since there were on different orders then the email I replied to.

She said that the book was being shipped back to CD so they cold tip in a remargue.

I hope you get a happy result like I did.

Thanks fellas. Mindy and CD of course are all over it and doing their best to sort it for me. I had originally ordered Carrie from PS - but I had assumed emails with CD requesting / confirming the number for subsequent orders was sufficient to confirm my number. I had purchased the Carrie portfolio, with Remarque, directly from CD, and got the correct number... Annnnyway, CD have performed miracles in the past - I'll be sure to update with the good news (of me getting my number, OR psychologically adjusting to this predicament!) Haha..

Peri, here is the email Pete Crowther sent out to customers who got their copies from PS Publishing in the UK (me included #640)

Hi Folks

Please excuse this rather impersonal blanket mailshot but we’re going to be sending out the non-UK CD traycased copies next week and I need to know if anyone has a special number. I can offer 624 through to 638 plus 643 (which is what we had for CD’s CARRIE)—please give me three choices. If we don’t hear back from you soon then we’ll have to choose a number ourselves on your behalf.

Best wishes as always

Pete Crowther

It looks as if it might have gone to PS Publishers. Sorry I don't have better news but hopefully this helps!

That's the company we use for all of our major website developments and upgrades (and fixing the stuff I break). They're in the middle of a MAJOR overhaul/upgrade on the site right now (huge changes coming this summer) and I suspect something accidentally triggered an automatic reply to comments. Did everyone get the e-mail about remaining AE copies of the Shining?

Yes! I was pretty happy as I was able to upgrade from the gift to the AE! I think it will be fun to have my remarques in an AE edition. I have the GE's of Carrie and Salem's and from now on the rest will be AE's :)

I believe Brian mentioned long ago that they "hope" to offer Remarques on all of the Doubleday books, but ultimately it depends on the artist's time available. I imagine if the primary artist can't do it, Glenn will still be able to. I am wishing I had gotten the Remarque in Carrie since I got it in SL and The Shining.

Maybe I will send my AE off to him for a Remarque, it just won't be one of the special limited CD ones :) At least then I could ask for a pig scene.:emot-roflolmao:

That's perhaps not a bad idea to do one of these days. I have the portfolio remarque, but don't have one in the book. I guess it depends on if I remain lucky enough to complete the rest of the set with remarques. Then I'd almost have to.

No one needs to stay up late or take off work or anything like that since the book we're announcing tomorrow is being published in eBook and trade editions and there are no signed editions, but I'm having a really fun time preparing for tomorrow's announcement.

We've been working on something very cool since April and it'll be nice to finally be able to talk about it in public. Here's a sneak peak at part of the cover artwork:

Carrie is now in my hands. By now, others have provided the details; suffice it to say this is a fine book with regard to how it looks and feels (nice size too, if you like the feel of a "substantial" book). Not sure how many remain at CD, B&N and Amazon, but fence-sitters should jump on in. This is not news, but it bears repeating: CD does mighty nice work.

So since I didn't get the official CD remarque from Carrie, but have since gotten Salem's Lot and The Shining with remarques, I went ahead and contacted Glenn about doing one for my Carrie AE.

I must say, Glenn is a super nice guy and was very quick to reply every time I emailed. In addition, he had the remarque done withing a couple of days of getting the book and it is on it's way back to me now.

I mentioned to him that I really like the Pig scenes he did for the CD remarques so I would love something from that scene, but left it up to him past that and he said he would come up with something good and "oinky" for me.

Today he sent me a shot of the work before packing it back up and I love it!

I don't think they've listed Night for sale yet. At least I hope not because if they did I missed it! Pretty sure they haven't though. Getting the signature sheets was such an undertaking I think they sent Del Toro the sheets for both books when they had him sign for The Fall which was smart so hopefully Night won't be a years down the road wait.

Brian has not posted on this site for awhile.... I guess he might be on vacation (possible) or just extremely busy (very likely). I just certainly hope everything is okay with him and that he's not unwell? :o

Regarding Turn Down The Lights, here is the official production update from the Cemetery Dance website....

We've received the final piece of artwork for the signed editions and the signature sheets are on the way back to us! (As we mentioned in previous updates, the original signature sheets went missing in California, so we had to start the process over, which cost us nearly two years of production time!) We're preparing everything for the printer, and should be sending this one with the September batch of books. Thank you for your patience!

And the production update for Detours....

The proofers are taking one more look at this one and the signature sheets have ONE more signer to go, and then this one will be sent to the printer!

THE FALL went to the printer at the end of June. Won't be done there until the end of August. Slipcases will probably take 12 weeks from there. Getting closer!

THE NIGHT ETERNAL has not been offered for sale yet, so no worries there. It won't be until it goes to the printer, actually. The wait for THE FALL was much too long. Not going to let that happen again with #3.

You have no idea how happy I was to see those signature sheets finally arrive back safe and sound. I didn't say anything publicly at the time because I didn't want to freak people out, but the USPS lost the second set of sheets when they were headed to the same person who never received them the FIRST time. Luckily, the package with the sheets turned up a few days later.

Who knows, maybe that first set of sheets will still arrive at their destination some day... like the Titanic in Ghostbusters 2, which I watched again recently for some reason...

CD is getting to be a pretty popular small press, so it might become a lengthier time to get 'normal' responses from Mindy, particularly is certain books are going through critical phases. You're doing the right thing, so she will get to them, so perhaps just add on a delivery and/or a read receipt so that you know she has gotten it. If not, then perhaps try sending from a different email addy.

We had a bit of a delay on the Joyland slipcases, but we're really hoping they are finished soon.

The End of Watch cases are at the halfway point. I think we mentioned this with Finders Keepers, but the covering material became a special order item after Mr. Mercedes and it's taking even longer to arrive in this time. But we want them to look like a real set, so we figured it was worth the wait!

Speaking of CD's Doubleday Years set: I know some of you are buying all 6 books because that's the sensible collector thing to do (why buy an incomplete set, etc.), and of course, some of you will buy all 6 because you like all 6 (also makes sense). By this point in time, people have pretty much had to have made their decision about the first 3 (although some Carrie fence-sitters may remain - buy it, folks).

Is anyone out there on the fence about any of the 3 yet to come (Night Shift, The Stand, Pet Sematary)? The only one I have any doubt about is Pet Sematary.

I just finished re-reading that (I believe this was the first time I've read it in around 30 years, last time when I was a teenager - holy crap I'm old). You'd think I'd know whether or not I want a $100 edition of this; either it means enough, or it doesn't. On the one hand, it definitely didn't resonate and sing the way The Shining or The Stand do (for me, of course), but on the other, it was not a case of falling short (as Cujo and Christine definitely do - again, for me), but more that it was a dense, sorrowful, tragic mass of events that didn't stir up a hurricane so much as just roll the dark clouds in over your head and leaving you feeling terrible (you could almost say the same about The Dead Zone (which I prefer to PS), which has a bit more actually happen, or Cujo (which I do not). In general, Pet Sematary is definitely a success, and in no way would I call it a failure simply because it falls behind some of the others (for me).

While this started as a Doubleday Years post, maybe it's more of a Pet Sematary post (and of course, it can be both).

I thought I was building up to a question, but now I realize I don't know what (if anything) I want to ask.

Nope. They're awesome editions that are better than the originals. I prefer reading CD books over pretty much any other press. The paper, font, illustrations, etc. enhances the reading experience for me. (And they look amazing on the shelves for when friends come over and admire them.) I've stopped reading/purchasing mass market paperbacks. This is all story aside though.

Going forward, with King and with others, I would like to own the nicest version of any book that I care to own in the first place, and CD really gives the reader something to enjoy, not simply a touch of leather or embossing etc., but a whole package that, overall and in the details, is much more satisfying to hold, to read, and to look at on the shelf.

There are some nice non-CD special editions of King's work out there which I'd like to have but which I'm holding off on because, who knows, CD might produce one in the next few years, and (given that CD's ideas about what makes a great book seem to closely match mine) I'm virtually certain to prefer the CD.

Does anyone know/suspect etc. what King things CD might have in the pipeline (other than the DY, of course)? In particular, I'd be interested in Different Seasons, Insomnia, Skeleton Crew, The Dead Zone, Hearts In Atlantis, Four Past Midnight, possibly Needful Things.

Well I don't know what King books CD might have in the pipeline, but I would certainly love to see them do the Viking Press Years. All my favourite King books belong in that era.

If CD ever produce a limited edition of either Needful Things or Different Seasons, I'll go for the Lettered edition no questions asked!!! :excited::clap:

Yep, even if not signed by King.

Along with IT, they are my favourite King books of all time and as St. Troy so eloquently posted, it's about owning the nicest version of these books that's important to me.

There are no plans for us to continue with the series at this time, unfortunately.

Probably because the author took FOREVER to sign and when she did the sig was "pure" crap. :D

We’re extremely thrilled to announce the Cemetery Dance Gold Seal imprint, an exciting new line of books personally selected and introduced by Stephen King!

The first title in this line will be the subversive classic Dark Debts by Karen Hall, and Stephen King has written a terrific original introduction about why he loves this book so much.

Cemetery Dance founder Richard Chizmar and Stephen King have discussed creating an imprint like this for years, but our new Six Scary Stories anthology (featuring stories selected and introduced by King) really pushed the idea into overdrive this summer.

You can read more on our site about his first selection:

Is anyone out there on the fence about any of the 3 yet to come (Night Shift, The Stand, Pet Sematary)? The only one I have any doubt about is Pet Sematary.

What he said. I'm one of those who prepaid the rest of the entire series when presented the opportunity a while back. It was a chunk of dough to prepay all at once, but it's nice when the books arrive without effort.

I'll give Dan a heads-up, so he can start checking the warehouse for a spare. I haven't seen that problem on this case before, but glue problems obviously DO happen and I've seen it on other books over the years from just about every publisher. It's why we try to hold onto our extra cases for as long as possible because an issue like this won't "show itself" right away.

Hey Brian, I ordered a From a Buick 8 traycase back at the end of July and on August 5th I received an e-mail saying it was shipped with a Priority Mail tracking number. Since that time, however, the tracking number has not updated, it still says a label was created and pre-shipment info was sent to USPS back on August 5th. Do you know if there is anything going on in terms of shipping and/or shipping e-mails? I have sent a few messages asking about it and haven't gotten any response. I don't know if that means there actually is a problem or if everybody's just really busy and haven't had the time to look into it, but I'm starting to get a little worried. Any help you could give me would be most appreciated.

Another five bags showed up via the Post Office this morning, so I hope we're getting closer! They're trickling in every week and we need to have them all first, so we can sort the books and get the right book with the right order, etc.

Soonish I hope. We prefer to wait for all the copies to arrive before we start shipping, and they are starting to take up an awful lot of space given that they only packed 2 per box...

Brian - Received two books yesterday. "The Slave Trade" by Alan Peter Ryan and "Nothing Lasting" by Glen Krisch. Invoice said two other books, "Reading Stephen King" editied by you and "The People Next Door" by Christopher Ransom are on back order. For the life of me I can't remember ordering these. Were they part of some type of promotion? I didn't get a shipping notice so the surprise was even greater than normal.

That's the first half of a Forthcoming Grab Bag, I think we offered it earlier this year! I'm guessing the packing slip didn't actually INCLUDE the Grab Bag information on it, which would have been helpful! ha!
