View Full Version : Book Collection : Dan
I finally took some photos. I am starting with the wide view of my library. Yes, I know there is Wonder Woman stuff on the wall. My wife and I recently swapped her craft room and my former library and I haven't had time to remove it yet.

I confirmed that I do, in fact, have a BOMC edition of Catcher in the Rye. It was printed in 1951 with the same DJ as the original. I bought it because I like the look of the book, wanted to read it and it was only $5.

I have that THE BALLAD, etc. and it states - Previously published in Conjunctions
I stopped at my local used bookstore today, as is my normal Saturday morning, and picked this up for $6.50. It is a first edition, fine condition, with brodart cover already on it. I would have probably bought it even without the signature inside. I took a chance that it is legit. It looks like the other Matheson signature I have. I have no idea who the second signature is. Any guesses are welcome. Also picked up a couple of first edition Straub books, nothing signed though.

If you are talking about the white cover that has writing, then no. It is identical in content to the signed one. On the back it states "special preview edition". It is Ballentine Books and has the same number of pages. I got it because I had not seen this one before.

So as far as I can tell, there are 3 proof states. The ARC from Ballantine with the photo cover, the ARC from Ballantine with the blurb cover and the UK Orion ARC with Amy's face on the cover.
I guess I need to find the UK proof.

Great !!! This The Passage proof is missing in my collection.
(There is also an GERMAN slipcased ARC / Leseexemplar of DER ÜBERGANG-The Passage.)
On the German bookpremiere event, Justin Cronin signed me my Leseexemplar, he said that this
was the first German book he signed. He is a friendly guy, it was nice to talk and drink with him.

You have inspired to spend more of my hard earned money, so I just bought the UK proof. Now have 2 out of 3. That Ballantine proof seems to be the size of a normal paperback.
Thanks to Randell Flagg, I now how the error edition signed The Passage and a flyer from a signing event that is also dated.

Interesting titles. What do you mean, a freebie from Sub Press? Was it just something they did at random? I ordered a book for another person once from them and they enclosed a proof copy of one of their books, which I gave to the person I'd ordered the book for (after all, it was his money). So I guess they do this occasionally. So of course I've never got anything like that in one of my orders. But once in a while they'll send me a free book or two if a title they announced is behind schedule. If CD did that I'd be drowning in free books. That's just a joke, so please don't be offended CD!!!!
I really like that LEGENDS.
Yes, I ordered two books from Sub Press when they were selling 50% on eBay. They just threw it in and put a note stating that it was a bonus gift. Very nice. I don't order from them often, but they do have quality books.

I've read the story. Very well written. Not horror. I liked it. You can definitely see his style in this writing. Its about a boy who knows he has "problems", and copes with them as best he can. He basically talks about his folks and how each one treats him different and his life with his "problem".

I need to look again, but basically the earliest books, any of the Bachman books, and some of the odds and ends like Cycle of the Werewolf, My Pretty Pony, etc. I'm not in a huge rush, I just figure I will pick them up when I see a good deal. That's how The Stand came about.

It is 35mm, but I don't have a projector. It was very cheap and looked interesting, so i bought it. The tape on it keeps it sealed. For that matter, it could be anything on the film. :)

Yes, I'm a fan, but I've never read anything else except for Dark Tower series. I was never into comics and took a chance with Locke & Key and found I really liked it. I've never been into super hero stuff and this reads like a book. It also has made me appreciate art much more. Just thinking about the time spent on creating one issue is amazing. I wish I could have helped more.

Darn, I completely forgot I still need Shivers VI in hardcover. Your recent update reminded me.
I dig Locke and Key. The story is intriguing and the artwork gets better with time. I wasn't into it at all in the beginning but it's much more solid now. If you don't read comics at all, L&K is a good gateway book. If you've already read Alan Moore, Warren Ellis, Grant Morrison, Jeff Lemire, Matt Wagner, Straczynski, J.H. Williams III, it might feel like a step down. Brilliance of those men can really spoil fanboys.
Thanks Brian Freeman!!! Can't wait to dig into these!

That's a good one. That cover alone has five desirable signatures (King, Shepard, Lebbon, Campbell, Hill.)
Just got this one back. Bad glare on the photo, sorry. I'm very pleased with the way it turned out.

Very nice !!!
An amazing piece of art. Although it is housing a later printing of Carrie, it still is a truly beautiful piece of craftsmanship.

What kind of slipcases do you have for Book of Horrors and The Big Book of Necon? They look cool next to each other.

On CD site they have a black slipcase that fits both books.

I don't know who is or isn't the praying type, but please remember me this week. I was riding my bicycle yesterday and a car hit me. I have a broken hip socket on left side and fractured pelvis on left side. Also a torn ligament in my shoulder, so I can't even use a walker. I will have no use of my left leg for 6 - 8 weeks. I was wearing a helmet and the accident was the fault of the car. Overall it could have been much worse, so I am grateful for only having the injuries that I received.

Dan, that sucks. Sorry to hear about it, but thank Baby Jesus that it wasn't worse. Car accidents are no joke, especially when you're not even in a car!
