Coppola.
I love me some Chinatown and The Pianist, but the first two Godfather films are some of the best pieces of film making I've ever seen.
... and this, alas, is clearly the point where my favorite director of all times and the present tournament part company...
well... let him have at least bears' vote... (or can bears vote multiple times? after all, we're bears, in the plural?)

Coppola. I mean, The Godfather II. Yeah, Coppola.
( and frankly, as "lightweight" as some people consider it - The Outsiders is wonderful )

He also made what is considered by many to be the greatest war film ever made, Apocalypse Now ... a film that also stars a terrifying, mesmerizing Marlon Brando as the physical embodiment of 'War is hell, and hell is war' in the form of Colonel Kurtz.

oh come on
all Polanski fans know that there's glamour in defeat, and fascination in being victimized... the knowledge comes with the territory
Zdarto żagle, ster prysnął, ryk wód, szum zawiei,
Głosy trwożnej gromady, pomp złowieszcze jęki,
Ostatnie liny majtkom wyrwały się z ręki,
Słońce krwawo zachodzi, z nim reszta nadziei.

translation please?
it's by Adam Mickiewicz - in short: the sails are ripped, the tempest howls, the helm is broken, the ropes [or whatever it is they have on ships] are torn out of the sailors' hands, and the setting sun is a pool of blood, and there's no hope.
I think I'll be expressing myself in French and Polish till the tournament is over

Just my luck ... all my prayers, and this is the one that gets through!
Precisely. I, too, wish any other prayer of yours had been answered. Our wishes coincide remarkably.

Y en a qui meurent par erreur pour une poussière sur la balance
Quand la justice a ses rancoeurs ou ses absences
Y en a qui meurent dans les poubelles, les bannis de la société
Leur rêve au bout d'une ficelle, ballon crevé -
So don't fear if you hear
A foreign sound to you ear
It's alright, Ma, I'm only sighing
Autumn Chant
Bright are the colors of doom and defeat,
Funeral wreaths please the eye of the dead,
Red-cloaked drummers will beat a retreat,
Hope me no hopes, for the future is read.
Show me no rubies, no gold of the loot:
Bright are the colors of doom and defeat,
Frail was the armor you crush underfoot,
Red-cloaked drummers will beat a retreat.
Colors of gore come to lighten the grief:
Funeral wreaths please the eye of the dead.
Scarlet the plague that will ravage your fief.
Hope me no hopes, for the future is read.

Coppola advances !
