When I first started thinking of Roland back when I read the Gunslinger the first time around, he was faceless. By the time I got to the Wastelands, which is still my favorite book; I pictured something in the middle of Clint Eastwood and Crocodile Dundee. (sorry I can just see that guy twirling his fingers for someone to hurry it up.)
I have also pictured Eastwood as Father(Pere) Don Callaghan.
Eddie always made me think of a slightly Hispanic looking dude. idk why
The most spot on actor for any character in the whole series is Sam Elliot for Eldred Jonas.
Lance Henricksen in DEAD MAN has always been my visual image for Eldred Jonas.
Very cool movie too...
Sam's a bit more trig looking, I'd say: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm983800576/nm0000385
Ok... Possible Roland: Gerard Butler http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3022294784/rg2711919104
First post, and a bit of a bump; well I'm sure he has been mentioned in this thread already, but in my mind James Franco is the only actor who could play Eddie.
The rest are a little trickier (LOL at Hugh Laurie suggestions, he will always be the bumbling fool Prince George to me),
I haven't seen an episode of House (which seems to be where most of these 'Laurie as Roland' suggestions are stemming from ) , I need to get on that asap me thinks.
I have never actually seen the man act and I don't anticipate ever watching House. Laurie gets my vote because he looks like Roland looks, especially in some of the House promo pics I've seen. I believe one may have been posted in this thread before.
You've never seen him act yet he's your choice for Roland? Can I assume you aren't too serious about a DT movie mate
FWIW I consider Laurie a brilliant comedian and a decent drama actor, and physicially he resembles the Roland in my mind (long tall and ugly) but still a resounding no for me
Charles Bronson as Harmonica in Once Upon A Time in the West is my ideal Roland.
You assume incorrectly my friend.
In my opinion, the Roland from the books will never be portrayed as I saw and know him from my numerous readings of the series. That said, I can easily separate the books from the (potential) movies and can enjoy them for what they both are (could be). Since I don't believe an actor/actress can pull off the roles of the DT like I think they are, I must base my vote on looks alone.
So, House for Roland!
Roland: Mel Gibson
Eddie: Shia Labeouf(given the right director)
Susannah:Zoe Zaldana
Oy: CGI of course
Jake:Luke Benward(I admit that I haven't see him in anything, but this is a tough one)
Callahan: Chris Cooper
Clearly you haven't seen to many of his films. Under the right direction, he would be amazing as Roland. The man can be a downright emotionless killer, and turn around and show heartbreaking emotion. He isn't my favorite human being in the world, but he would be do well in that part.
Mel Gibson is not long, tall and ugly. Sorry, I agree with the disagree'ers.
Although I would love for them to do a live-action movie, I think that animation would be the way to go with all of the crazy stuff that goes on. I imagine the scenes in a kind of "anime" style as I read them. Also with animation, they wont have to rush anything because of an actors age. Also Eastwood could totally voice roland.
I don't see the resemblance.
A true firewasp ninja would never wear such a ridiculous sweater.
There's logic in nonsense.
Give me all the bacon and eggs you have.
Here are my picks...
http://punnygirl.blogspot.com/2010/0...-probably.html
Roland - Richard Armitage
Eddie - Jensen Ackles
Susannah - Rutina Wesley
Jake - Nathan Gamble
Cuthbert - Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Alain - Charlie Hunnam
Susan - Emma Watson
Flagg - Alan Tudyk
is this all just speculative or is there actually a movie in the works?
