Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches will soon have some company on AMC. The network has officially greenlit a third series in its Immortal Universe, which is based on the works of author Anne Rice.
Per TVLine, the new Immortal Universe series, tentatively titled The Talamasca, "will feature the men and women responsible for tracking and containing the witches, vampires, werewolves and other creatures scattered around the globe." The first season will consist of six episodes. A 2025 premiere on AMC and AMC+ is being eyed. John Lee Hancock and Mark Lafferty serve as co-showrunners, writers, and executive producers on the series. Hancock is also on board as a director.
"This all started for me with a call from Mark Johnson, who asked if I’d ever heard of The Talamasca. I was intrigued by the idea of an organization that, to me, had more than a passing resemblance to the CIA or MI6, which are necessary but not always necessarily transparent. An organization with its own secrets," shared Hancock in a statement. Lafferty added, "When John told me about a clandestine organization in the Immortal Universe with its own hidden agendas, I was immediately hooked."
A Talamasca-centered series was first announced to be in development at AMC in April 2023. "This is a story we’ve been developing and wanting to tell from the earliest moments of this franchise, focused on a fascinating and compelling secret society that has already appeared in both of our existing Anne Rice series, The Talamasca," said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks.
Immortal Universe producer Mark Johnson added that The Talamasca is "a completely different show from the first two, but a show that nevertheless belongs under the Anne Rice umbrella. The Talamasca marries the procedural spy thriller with the supernatural and expands the thrills and the pleasures of our franchise’s ambitions."
The Talamasca organization has already been introduced in both Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches. Talamasca agent Ciprien Grieve, played by Tongayi Chirisa, appeared in Mayfair Witches Season 1, having been assigned to monitor the show's main character, Rowan Fielding (Alexandra Daddario). Justin Kirk's Raglan James, another character with ties to the Talamasca, meanwhile, made his debut in the second season of Interview.
Anne Rice's Immortal Universe launched on AMC in October 2022 with the series premiere of Interview with the Vampire, which is based on Rice's The Vampire Chronicles series of novels. Mayfair Witches premiered in January 2023 and takes place in the same universe as Interview. That series is based on Rice's Lives of the Mayfair Witches trilogy, which was published between 1990 and 1994. A second season of Mayfair Witches is currently in post-production and expected to air on AMC in 2025.
The Talamasca is tentatively scheduled to premiere on AMC and AMC+ in 2025.
