serve at table?
quick, perhaps dumb question...but when thorins sister is telling roland that susan is the mayors "sheevin", roland says to himself , ( chapter susan, subchapter 9)
":do you serve?, he'd asked her, meaning did she serve at table. Mayhap she did serve, but likely she did it in a room rather more private than this."
i think i know what it means but not entirely sure who is is referring too n what exactly? susan n sex acts for mayor??
just curious as i continue to read onward lol

As far as I understood, yes, you are correct. While Thorin's arrangement was obviously a one-off deal, this statement was made to imply that she was a prostitue, or whatever the Mid-World variance of the position.

I vaguely recall someone in W&G saying that sheevin means "side-wife," so "mistress" may be a more appropriate way to describe it.
