Default What are the 3 strangest movies you have ever seen ?

I just finished watching David Lynch's Inland Empire, and I have to admit that it has crept to the top spot of the aforementioned category. Never have I felt so lost, confused, horrified, and intrigued by a movie at the same time.

What are the 3 strangest movies you have ever seen ? Since we've all seen different films, and all have a different criteria/measuring stick for what makes a movie 'strange' , I feel this will be a very interesting topic

    I'll start us off :

    Inland Empire (David Lynch, 2006)
    Naked Lunch (David Cronenberg, 1991)
    El Topo (Alejandro Jodorowsky, 1970)

    Feev, what an excellent thread

I definitely agree on the first two. I've never seen El Topo but now you have me intrigued.

I'll have to think about it some, but at this moment I would probably say:
    Eraserhead (David Lynch 1976)
    Mulholland Drive (David Lynch 2001)
Only the gentle are ever really strong.

Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas - 1998, T. Gilliam (very good, but very strange)
Pi - 1998, D. Aronofsky (again, great, but strange)
Requiem for a Dream - 2000, D. Aronofsky (ditto the other two)

I love Aronofsky's style, I really do, but ya gotta admit that it scores pretty high on the Odd Scale. XD

Heather - I have a serious love for Lynch, too. He's so good. <3

Maybe. I have watched a lot of weird movies and probably will change my mind before I am done typing this. For example Mirrormask just came to mind.

I have seen some of the movies mentioned, some I have not and now want to see them!
But I have to put 3 David Lynch movies for my 3 choices:

    INLAND EMPIRE (fascinating!)

    LOST HIGHWAY

    ERASERHEAD

I thought Mulholland Drive was very strange, but after having read a plausible explanation of it, I now find it understandable, and still highly enjoyable.

I was thinking Donnie Darko for the third, but it actually made a lot of sense to me. :/

I have seen many strange movies (including most of those mentioned). I actively seek them out. I couldn't pick three strangest though.

This is a great topic, Feev, thanks!

It's interesting too, because one of my all time strangest films is also one of my all time favorite movies ... Pi !

Pi ( Darren Aronofsky, 1998 ) I absolutely love this film, but it is sort of "out there" and a tad strange. Those ants and all, ya know?

Mulholland Drive ( David Lynch, 2001 ) because you just can't leave a Lynch film without mumbling ... "What the hell just happened, and who was that Cowboy dude?"

Naked Lunch ( David Cronenberg, 1991 ) because I'm still not sure what the hell that was all about.

And ... an honorable mention here for Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory ( 1971 ) because though its a great and fun and musical movie ... it's also pretty darn strange.
The Man In Black Fled Across The Desert...

    ...And The Gunslinger Followed.

Pam - have you seen Inland Empire by Lynch ? It's often referred to as "Mulholland Drive... on acid" I'd love to know what you think of it.

Now I MUST see Inland Empire. I doubt the Mullholland Drive on acid thing though. Trust someone who knows.

I can't really narrow down a top 3, but the movie that always pops to the top of my head when I think about strange is The Doom Generation.

I believe it was more of an analogical description than anything. I'm assuming it was to give the reader a perspective of exactly how strange the movie is. Mulholland Drive itself is a roller coaster mindf*ck of a movie, but on acid ? Damn

I was going to list this and Ichi The Killer as my runner ups - two completely deranged movies, I love them.

The imdb.com description for Inland Empire reads similar to The French Lieutenant's Woman. Is that accurate?
