1, but if I could give it a zero I would. I absolutely hated it.
I LOVED this book. I really enjoyed the ghost story aspect, which he hasn't really done terribly much of. It was also one of a handful (or maybe it's a double handful) of his books that scared me silly--but as I like being scared, that was a big plus.
5, as if y'all couldn't guess.
5
Wow.
I gave it a 5. It ties with IT as my second fave of all time, behind Hearts in Atlantis. I remember getting chills the first time something was spelled out on the fridge with the letter magnets, and books rarely get me like that.
Again, quite surprised by the 1s. A 5 for me for sure. A classic.
I gave this one a 4. It was a good story but I remember having a tough time getting through part of it toward the end and had to reread a few sections to follow the story. Still, it made me tear up. It was so full of unfairness.
Three. Some good scary aspects, but the whole thing with Kia and her mother was just freaking annoying half the time, especially at the end whereSpoiler: 12-08-2008 12:37 PMJohn_and_Yoko4. I wanted to love this on an Insomnia-like level (since it starts in Derry, and I loved IT and Insomnia), and I did enjoy the insights into what a writer's life is like (a WIDOWED writer, at that).
But it didn't really hold my interest as much as I hoped it would. 12-08-2008 01:53 PMflaggwalksthelinemeh i gave it a 3, somewhat entertaining 12-08-2008 01:55 PMMattThis is one of my most all time favorites, and the top on my "ghost story" list out of all types 12-08-2008 02:32 PMpickleThis is a tie with Insomnia as my all time faveriout King book.
I gave it a 5 12-08-2008 02:52 PMRandall Flagg 12-08-2008 03:11 PMThe Lady of Shadowsa 5.
one of my absolute favorites ever. and listening to it on audio was even better. i wish you would all give it another chance. 12-08-2008 05:22 PMHeather19Gave this one a 4. I remember reading it when it first came out and I absolutely loved it. I recently went back and reread it earlier this year, but for some reason I didn't like it as much as I did the first time around. However I still thought it was a wonderful story, and I really enjoyed the ghost story aspect of it. 12-08-2008 05:50 PMDaghain 12-08-2008 05:54 PMThe Lady of Shadowspoint for daggers. :P 12-09-2008 01:14 AMManOfWesternesseI gave it an average '3'. 12-09-2008 06:12 AMBrainslingerIt wasn't a bad story, certainly but I think they went into way too much information in the gang rape scene. 12-09-2008 06:50 AMpickleWell i sorta agree, but then i like James herberts work which generaly makes that scene look like a sunday prayer meeting. (eg. The Fog, The Others). 12-09-2008 06:53 AMBrainslingerI'm reading a Jame's Herbert book right now actually ('48) and I just finished 'The Magic Cottage'. (Well not right now. I'm typing this. Obviously. ;) )
You're right, he can get pretty grim can't he? (Although the Magic Cottage was pretty tame. Good read though, if a bit predictable.) 12-09-2008 07:01 AMpickleOh yes he can be a bit grim.
That scene in The Fog where theSpoiler:nearly made me stop reading the book.
He is a really good writer though, epecially if you like King, i recomend you try him. (he is called the British Stephen King) 12-10-2008 11:39 AMPatrickIt was good but I didn't love it. 4. 12-10-2008 12:40 PMjakjak4. I "read" this book as a Stephen King narrated audiobook. It really breathed life into the story because King new how each character was feeling.
