Not a very good movie.
That's the impression I get, although I know a couple of people who are excited about it.
seems they're on about a sequel already... so could it be Monster Island from Destroy All Monsters?
Godzilla had an almost $200.000.000 opening weekend (domestic plus foreign).
Of course there's going to be a sequel.
Which is fine with me - I liked it.
sk
I liked it, too -- I knew going in that Godzilla wasn't going to be onscreen that much.
To be honest -- it's the first Godzilla movie I've ever seen.
My son loved it and I liked it... it was very much like the old movies.
Nope -- I grew up with one TV station!
Get the Criterion Blu-ray: http://www.criterion.com/films/27755-godzilla Well worth it, it's a classic.
there's two versions of Godzilla '54, there's japan's Godzilla then there the american 'version' Godzilla: King of the Monsters released in 1956

Yeah, the Criterion disc has them both.
This was my first experience with Godzilla as well, and I was not a fan. Godzilla seemed cool, but the people around him not so much.
apparently Gareth Edwards will be directing the sequels
I would think the Criterion is better:

Finally got around to seeing this and overall I enjoyed it. However, the plot was a little thin and they didn't spend near enough time with the monsters. Also,

Nevertheless, the effects and "size" of it all were top notch!!! 05-25-2014 07:51 PMmystimaIf I remember from all the other Godzilla movies made in the past (black and white versions) the giant always saved the city from the other monsters. That was his purpose, why he was made. 05-25-2014 08:32 PMfrikThere was only one b/w Godzilla, the original from 1954. The others were all in color. And yes, sometimes he was the hero, but he's also been the bad guy.
sk 05-25-2014 09:00 PMneedfulthingsPlease check your facts Godzilla Raids Again 1955 was also in b/w.

Once again it's time to check for facts. Rodan,Mothra & Varan were NOT Godzilla spin offs they had their own stand alone features before they appeared in a Godzilla film.
1. RODAN 1956
2. VARAN 1958 (started out as a U.S.A. T.V. pilot)
3. MOTHRA 1961
FIRST GODZILLA FILM
1.RODAN & MOTHRA... GHIDORAH the THREE HEADED MONSTER 1964
2.VARAN ...DISTROY ALL MONSTERS 1968 (ONLY A FLY-BY)
3.MOTHRA...MOTHRA VS GODZILLA (GODZILLA VS THE THING) 1964
