Like the guy said on 60 Minutes the other night -- it's like wearing a seat belt. 99.9% of the time, you won't need a seat belt, but the time you do need it, it's too late if you're not already wearing one!
LOL. Bad analogy there.
That I know of, wearing a seat belt will not give me some debilitating condition just from putting it on when I get in the car. Yet to hear of anyone having any side effects from it. Children don't end up with lifelong diseases from wearing a seat belt.
Bad analogies are a pet peeve of mine. :pullhair:
Well, there are those occasions where the fact that someone was wearing a seatbelt actually leaves them worse off than if they hadn't worn it. I think Bev's (or 60 Minutes') analogy is a good one.
That's the way I understood it, and I don't think it is a bad analogy at all.
Edit: In fact children are the group that are most-often injured by seat belts. *This does not mean I condone not buckling up your child* But when people are injured by seat belts it is usually because the seatbelt catches them across the neck resulting in *ahem* a far more debilitating condition than if they had not worn a seatbelt to start with.
