First things first.
This is the Collectible Classifieds thread.
That means it is for selling items.
This is not the Giveaway thread, so people posting as though they are getting a free item are likely to be disappointed.
Time stamps mean nothing if a person is selling to the highest bidder (unless seller has specifically stated a time limit, or first come first served policy).
Enjoy the thread while it lasts.
Next year, sellers will have to pay a commission (much less than Ebay, Paypal) or be a "Premium Seller" to post an ad.
Posts will have to be pre-approved and paid for.
Not sure what I did wrong? I was just saying I sent a PM the same minute he posted. He said nothing about 'highest bidder.' Anyway, I was just typing a message to say the next person in line can have it, as I really don't want to 'fight' over it. Not a big deal.
You didn't do anything "wrong". The teaser by Tito_Villa was the problem. Perhaps he will chime in and offer dozens for free. If so, wonderful. If not, then remember that this thread is for selling items-not giveaways.
Review post #8362 as to what the future policy for this thread is likely to be.
Okay thanks for clarifying. My guess is that he only has one which he wants to sell. Maybe he will respond and make it clearer.
I'm willing to buy. I doubt he has that many to sell but I realize which thread I'm on.
Is the 'King Books/Items Wanted' thread going to be changed as well? For example, I recently posted that I wanted a book, stated a price, the seller PM'd me and we went forward with a transaction, and then left feedback for each other. Are sales outside of the 'Collectible Classifieds' thread going to be discouraged once the commission policy is instituted (like how they are on ebay)?
**edit: My wife just told me that I sound like a smartass in this reply, but I didn't mean it that way at all. I am just curious about the future of the 'King Books/Items Wanted' thread because I really like it. I can understand the potential need for site fees.
First off, I for one am behind you 100%, RF on charging some sort of fee for selling here. My guess is that it would significantly reduce the "site fee's" burden required to keep the site afloat, so to speak.
Just thinking out loud, but wouldn't it be much easier to charge a a nominal "flat fee" to be registered as a seller here? I mean rather than dealing with pre-approvals for every sale item/post/ad. I would think that would virtually eliminate any potential "timing/delay" issues attached to pre-approvals and greatly reduce your efforts in this regard, no? I think a fee for the ability to sell here is more than fair. IDK what your goals are, whether to make some money or just break even on the site fees, but that's not my business and you are more than entitled based on the amount of time and effort you contribute on all our behalf.
For that matter, I would not be opposed to a flat fee to become a "Certified/Registered Buyer" here as well. Seems like it would be a benefit for the sellers to some degree. I'd be happy to pay a nominal annual fee to be registered as a buyer here. I regularly contribute through a donation toward the "site fees" already so it would seem to be a moot point in my case, but the site offers buyers and sellers a rather unique forum for conducting business/transactions and is much cheaper (it's been totally free to this point) than paying eBay/ABE/VFB, etc to sell/buy items. The only concern I can foresee would be any possible issues cropping up with regard to a perceived "service" once a selling fee is introduced. In my case, I don't see that as an issue in any way, but I can imagine some folks thinking that since they are paying to register that now the site should offer some sort of "protection" and/or enforced policies/rules. I would think that you would want to eliminate any misconceptions in that regard from the beginning. Introduce it as simply a "courtesy donation" for a "courtesy privilege" and to weed out the riff-raff. LOL LOL
Of course, this is just my own musings and I don't pretend to suggest that I have any real say in what you ultimately decide to implement. I think we all know how fair and equitable you have always been in the past and can fully trust you to continue that in the future. I only offer my own two cents, FWIW in the hopes that I may be helpful in some small way. Again, FWIW I'm behind you 100%, El Jefe!!!
Once fees(instead of donations) are taken in by this site, can you continue to be a .org website?
Mulleins
I guess I'd better get in gear. Have several things for here.
Is there a separate thread for selling comics, ie the Dark Tower ones?
I'd pay to subscribe to thedarktower.porn
Totally interested in a sampler! How much?
Wouldn't charge a fee here discourage a large quantity of post/auctions? I don't quite like the idea and I don't remember I ever experienced it in other forums. I think some of the old members and usual sellers will probably keep on selling, but new members (or not-so-new but that don't post much) will be discouraged by the idea and I don't see it will benefit the site.
If money is needed to keep the website that's perfect, but in that case I'd preffer a fixed thread in the top or even automate emails (one per month, maybe?) to remind members of the importance of donations to keep the forum alive.
I understand this is not the place to talk about this matter so I can move the message to the correct thread (I don't know which) if needed.
