I was thinking the same thing. LOL

I have no idea if mine has been damaged yet..It's listed as having been in San Francisco since 12/15 so there is still time for someone to screw it up.
My copy arrived today and the packaging looks VERY similar to what other members have posted - but the book was perfect once I peeled the layers of what appears to be dried out soggy cardboard off.
In a strange way, I'm glad that I wasn't the only one, but I feel the frustration that others must be feeling at the condition upon arrival.
Also, I have #808 if anyone wanted a trade for a number that's the same forwards as it is backwards.
:Ball Kick:
Kicking myself for not breaking down and getting one of these!!!! Sigh...........................
Checked Charlie the Choo Choo on eBay and man there are a lot of different versions and prizes on there. Do we know what edition is most valuable and what they are worth? I suspect that the CDCC version isn't as valuable as what it sold for at the begining right? And how about the abnormal UK edition? Is that one really worth over $200?
Lilja
I'd say the SDCC copy dropped a bit, but is still quite valuable. Expect to pay around $500+. The second most valuable, at the moment, is the "derailed" UK edition (the misprint), though I'd say $200 is a bit much. I think when the dust has settled both it and the UK limited will float around $100.
I think the quality of the signature makes a difference. There was sloppy one that sold for under $500 recently, but most others went for more. An unsigned one would probably fetch more than an ugly signature, or possibly a signature with a dedication to a specific person. That said a clean sig will be worth second most... next to the copy dedicated to Jake, which fetched over $1000.
- San Diego Comic Convention Version $500+with Nice signature. Unsigned $500+. Remarqued by Ned Dameron add $250, signed by King add $500+.
- "Derailed" UK edition with USA ISBN sticker $75-$100. There were ~6,500 so as more copies are found the price will drop.
- UK Edition with "signed" print
$75-$100.With patience these can be found on ebay for less than $40.- US Edition $25
It sure can be. This is just my opinion based on the trends I've observed (and have been posted earlier in this thread) from Ebay sales.
Received my derailed copy this morning from a fellow member (thanks, Eric!). And thanks to their generosity, I didn't pay near the going rate.
At this point in time I'm hoping the adage "NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS" is true.
I don't doubt the source of course but if there were 6500 copies of the derailed edition it sure seems like you would see a bunch more showing up. It is easy to get the signed UK edition and there were only 1000 of those.
My guess is this because the "UK" copies were shipped first and mostly went out to places like Amazon and big book distributors like Baker and Taylor. The readers who buy from Amazon and their local Books A Million or Barnes & Noble are unlikely to even consider the idea that they got something different or unusual. So most of those copies are sitting on bookshelves in homes or libraries right now like any other book. Whereas an edition specifically marked as a limited edition is easier to identify, even for your average off the street customer.

But if that is the case doesn't it still make it harder to get? If they all went to BAM and Amazon customers and are just sitting on shelves then it will be near impossible to get those to other people until they start to show up at Goodwills and similar stores. I have been to every store in my area and they are all normal runs.
Yeah, I could see many of these just "vanishing" forever because most readers have no idea their copy is any different. It'll be interesting to see how many show up via random eBay sales down the road -- where the seller is just getting rid of books, lists their copy of CHARLIE, and a buyer lucks into a copy.
Brian
I wonder how many of the anomaly copies are being resold right now for cheap because the seller doesn't know the difference.
Like Brian mentioned, the UK limited is recognizable as such to anyone. The anomaly version is not obvious except to the cognoscenti.
I wouldn't doubt that several copies of the derail are up right now for sale on eBay. Most probably just have a stock photo and you'd have to ask each and every seller for additional photos and info. Probably some to be had if one has the patience to search 'em out.
Here's something to ponder. Earlier in the thread people were mentioning the number line. Some of these books have 10-1 and others have 2 4 6 8 10 9 7 5 3 1. Different copyright pages with the smaller "lines" of information being from the 10-1 book. And the 10-1 book has the sticker on the back for the bar code. Not sure if this means anything but here it is. I bought 3 of these books from CD. All were the print run of 2 4 6 8 10 9 7 5 3 1. I bought ONE from Amazon and it was listed as a 10-1 print run with the sticker on the back. Would this mean buying from Amazon will give you the 10-1 all the time???? Something to think about and try..........
