You VIP Group had really nice seats! I'm envious!!!!!
And really hyped about Dr Sleep. I asked King when was it going to be published and all I got was "there is another Dark Tower to be published first!" So maybe late next year we will se Dr Sleep!
Is this an appropriate thread to sheepishly admit that I've never read The Shining? Should I get on that?
ummm....yes, absolutely. Now isn't soon enough.
I agree. What are you waiting for??
John
As with all of SK's book I'll definitely read Dr. Sleep although I was less than enthused by the premise he described. It sounds like it will change the way we view the forces at work in The Shining. For years and years I had hoped for a full length sequel to my favorite book, 'Salem's Lot, but as time has gone on I'm glad it never happened. I believe One For The Road succeeded very well as the coda and wasn't enthralled with how SK wrapped up the Lot in Wolves of the Calla. Sometimes things are better left to the imagination.
King reads from Dr. Sleep:

i began re-reading the shining a few months ago and got about 100 pages in,i couldnt do no more. i dont know why but it just didnt to click with me. dropped it and picked up jack reachers latest-devoured that in 3 days.(reacher is the man though!) go figure!!
Tonight Steve announced that he was done the second draft. He said that critics have been very kind with him regarding 11/22/63, and they've said maybe he was getting away from all that horror stuff. They won't know what hit them with Dr. sleep, he said. It's a goddamn scary book.
Yay!
:panic:
cant wait for this one!

What they all said!
Be nice to see Centipede's limited edition of The Shining released at the same time as Dr. Sleep!
Don't tease......I'd love to have a S/L of the Shining.
Regardless of Publisher (well, certainly not S&S).
Somebody do it! PLEASE!

I'm not deluded enough to think King might be turning into the next Faulkner or Updike but it's certainly nice he's getting some deserving mainstream recognition it seems like. Still, the next book being scary as fuck is also welcome news. And it is the next book, right? I mean aside from The Wind Through the Keyhole.
How dare someone cough while Uncle Steve is speaking??!?!?
